A large and varied selection of flies is a must for all successful steelhead fishermen. Different flies are applicable for different water conditions and regions. For example, in the Lake Erie region, most fishermen tend to use nymph rigs, while in the Michigan region, spey flies and larger streamers prevail. Generally, larger and darker colored flies hook more fish in muddy water conditions, while in clear water; smaller flies can be the secret. To ensure success, a steelheader should possess a variety of colors and sizes in nymphs, egg patterns, and streamers. Don’t be bashful, load those boxes and get ready to hook some Steelies on the Fly!
